Arsenal looks to sign Schalke 04’s Leon Goretzka from under the noses of Manchester United, Liverpool and even Barcelona.
The German international is out of contract this summer and can, therefore, agree to a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs. With the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Juventus and even Barcelona interested in Leon Goretzka, there is going to be a battle to see who will be the first to get the Schalke man to agree to a deal.
However, according to the Mirror Arsene Wenger and company may look to pull of another bargain deal. With Arsenal bringing in Sead Kolasinac also from Schalke 04 at the of the season, the Gunners look to pull off something similar with the 22-year-old Goretzka, as they close on an agreement.
The German does want to leave in the Bundesliga in search of brighter pastures and with the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus and even Barcelona, other than major Premier League interest, he has his pick of the top European clubs. However, given how talented he is he could potentially be perfect for any formation for any club in the world.
Leon Goretzka has been a highly rated prospect ever since his debut in 2013 but has flourished over the last few seasons. With players leaving the Bundesliga looking for another challenge, Goretzka has stayed and slowly become the leader in the Schalke midfield. A young and highly talented attacking pivot, Leon Goretzka would be a brilliant addition where ever he goes.
However, it’s also been reported by German news-outlet Bild that Schalke 04 have offered Goretzka a new deal worth just over £200,000 a week. While the deal would certainly make the 22-year-old Schalke’s highest paid player, the club feels that it’s the right move and keeping Leon Goretzka will be worth it.
However, there is hope for his potential suitors, with a release clause that could be somewhere between £40 million and £70 million.
If Arsenal somehow manages to pull off the deal and bring the German to the Emirates it would be a dream come true for everyone involved with the club. This is simply because Leon Goretzka is the perfect replacement for Santi Carzola, the beloved Spanish pivot who has had his issues with injuries over the last few years. But with Goretzka Arsenal get a young and eager star, plus the added benefit that he would get to learn from Santi.
