FC Barcelona already bolstered their squad in the summer transfer window which recently slammed shut, and the Catalan club has already to target players for the January transfer window.
FC Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde believes FC Barcelona must sign a new left-back as a backup option for Spanish International Jordi Alba who currently dons that position. Alba has impressed everyone with his performance for FC Barcelona but Barcelona do not have a decent backup for the 29-year-old left-back.
The idea of Alba playing all games for F C Barcelona this seasons sounds weird and hence Valverde thinks right. As reported by Don Balon, FC Barcelona are eyeing to sign any of Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal, Atletico Madrid left-back Felipe Luis and Valencia’s Jose Gaya in the January transfer window.
Juan Miranda is FC Barcelona’s current backup option for Jordi Alba. The 18-year-old impressed for Barca in the pre-season but it remains to be seen if he could play effectively when he would be up against tougher oppositions.
Last season, FC Barcelona had Lucas Digne as a left-back, but in the summer transfer window, English Premier League outfit, Everton, signed him from the Catalan club. However, it remains to be seen if the players linked would be interested to join FC Barcelona, given they would only be playing as a backup for Alba.
Jose Gaya sounds a decent option for the Catalans, given he is only 23-years-old. Gaya has been a regular for Valencia and made 38 appearances for them last season. Jordi Alba has reached the twilight of his careers and has only a few years remaining to play football at the top level. Hence, Jose Gaya could play as a backup option and replace Alba once he leaves the Catalan club in the near future.
FC Barcelona must address the issue in the winter transfer window. FC Barcelona seriously want a decent backup option for Jordi Alba. If the club fails to find and sign a good player, they will find themselves in a fix when Jordi Alba gets injured.
