Arsenal superstar opens up about his relationship with Unai Emery

What’s the matter

German Superstar Mesut Ozil sheds light on relationship with Unai Emery.

In case you don’t know

Mesut joined Gunners back in 2013 from Real Madrid. During his time in the club, he scored 43 goals in 166 appearances. He won FA cup in 2013-14, 2014-15, 2016-17 with the club.

There was much speculation over the state of Ozil and Emery’s relationship and it is understood the Gunners were prepared to part with the 30-year-old in January. Arsenal would consider bids once more this summer but there are few suitors for a player who earns £350,000-a-week.

Heart of the matter

Mesut Ozil states he has a “great relationship” with Arsenal manager Unai Emery regardless of battling for starting spot in the side in the Spaniard’s first season. He says: You know I have had a lot of coaches in my career so of course every coach is different and wants something different from you as a player but of course I had a few injuries before the season started last season so I had a tough time. At the end of the day, especially the end of the season I played a lot of games. I have a really good relationship with the coach so we are speaking a lot and he wants to help me and I want to help the team.

You know, what we spoke about between me and the coach I can’t say, I can’t tell you because if I say something now to you, in the future he doesn’t want to speak to me again, so I have to take care of that!

“He just wants to help me, I know that because he has a lot of experience. We are speaking a lot and he wants to help me and as I said before, I know what I can do on the pitch. He just wants to help me, I know that because he has a lot of experience. We are speaking a lot and he wants to help me and as I said before, I know what I can do on the pitch.”I want to help the team and I think it will be going well this season, for me and the team.”

What’s next

Mesut is part of the Arsenal first-team which is doing a pre-season tour in the USA. They will be facing Fiorentina and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup. They will return to England post this.
