‘Arsenal target unlikely to be in Bayern next season’ claims German expert

Arsenal and Wales star Aaron Ramsey is all set to join Serie A Juventus next season, thereby ending a decade long association with the Gunners

It is no surprise that the Gunners have been looking for a suitable replacement for the 28 year old Welshman for quite some time. And Columbia and Bayern Munich midfielder James Rodriguez has been linked with the Gunners for quite some time now. It has been a topsy-turvy ride for Rodriguez over the last 4-5 years. The 27 year old was signed by Real Madrid in 2014 for a hefty fee after a brilliant World Cup. However, Rodriguez was unable to cement his place in the starting eleven for the Los Blancos and was loaned out to German giants Bayern Munich in 2017 for 2 years.

It has been a somewhat similar story for Rodriguez at the Allianz Arena as well. While he has showed glimpses of his brilliance, he has failed to do it enough on a consistent basis. The Colombian has made just 15 appearances for the Bavarians this season and has found the net 3 times. Overall, since his move to Germany, Rodriguez has made 54 appearances and has found the net 11 times. And German football expert Raphael Honigstein claims that it is highly unlikely that Rodriguez will be in Bayern next season,

“Despite all his undeniable skill, he’s not done enough to convince successive coaches that they should build their team and system around him and his preferred No. 10 role,” Honigstein wrote in his column with ESPN.

What he really wants, in terms of importance and freedom on the pitch, is probably unattainable at Bayern Munich.

“On top of that, there are serious doubts whether he really wants to stick around for much longer, either.

“His father, Wilson, this week talked up the potential of James joining Juventus at the end of his loan this summer.

“Stranger things have happened in football. But as things stand, Bayern fans are best advised to enjoy the South American’s trickery while they can. He’s unlikely to wear the red shirt again come August.”

Author’s take

This might just be the opportunity that Arsenal have been looking for and they really need to go through with this move if they are to replace Ramsey.
