Arsene Wenger thinks that Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is the perfect replacement for Alexis Sanchez, according to the Mirror.
The Frenchman has been in fine form for Manchester United but has only started one game so far for the Red Devils. But with Alexis Sanchez well into the final year of his current deal, with no sign of him signing an extension. Thus, Arsene Wenger’s attention has turned towards Anthony Martial, another Frenchman who has the ability to play across the front line.
The 21-year-old forward has been in brilliant form this season but has been largely limited to appearances off the bend under Mourinho. And with the arrival of Romelu Lukaku, the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and even Marcus Rashford, Martial finds himself at the bottom of the pecking order as a striker. Jose Mourinho has used the Frenchman sparingly and despite that, Anthony Martial has responded.
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger sees himself fighting a losing battle to get Alexis Sanchez to sign an extension, along with a number of stars. But the Chilean already has suitors very interested in him, with the likes of Manchester City and PSG looking to sign him in January. Sanchez was on the verge of a move to Manchester City, but when talks broke down between Arsenal and Thomas Lemar, Arsene Wenger was adamant not to lose him.
Martial joined Manchester United in 2015 from Monaco in a £58 million deal and since then has made exactly 100 appearances, scoring 30 goals and 23 assists in that time. The Frenchman’s style of play, combined with his searing pace and finishing ability has seen many compare him to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

When asked about Anthony Martial, Henry, Arsenal’s record goalscorer went on to say that Martial has hit heights that he only dreamed off. “Anthony Martial is a far better player than I was at that age. He can become a world-class player.”
The forward has scored five goals and six assists in just nine appearances for the Red Devils this season. That combined with his limited appearances has given Wenger believing that Martial might be the right man to replace the prolific Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates.
Signing Anthony Martial would be another sensational signing for both Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, especially with the 21-year-old bearing striking resemblance to Thierry Henry. However, with Jose Mourinho reluctant to part with one of his young starlets, it will certainly be an interesting battle to look forward to.
