After dwelling into several weeks of heartbreaks, Arsenal fans finally breathe a sigh of relief as they eventually secured 3 points in the ongoing Premier League. The Gunners notched up a terrific win over Chelsea at The Emirates. The home side scored 3 goals and conceded just 1 in the game.
Mikel Arteta who took the blame upon himself for the recent defeats couldn’t have asked for a complete performance from his boys. Earlier, they lost to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final at home. Before facing Chelsea, the Gunners were just 3 points off the relegation zone.
However, they rose from the ashes and dominated Chelsea in every aspect of the game on Boxing Day. The Arsenal football fraternity heaped praise on Arteta and his boys for their brilliant performance. Bukayo Saka who scored a terrific goal was voted man of the match against Chelsea.
It could have easily been more than 4 or 5 goals for Arsenal considering their chances. However, they settled for 3 goals. Kieran Tierney played quite well and won a penalty for the Gunners.
Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring for Arsenal by converting the penalty into a goal. Since then, there was no intent from the Blues. They couldn’t register even a single shot on target in the first half.
Granit Xhaka made use of the set-piece chance to good effect as he converted it into an absolute screamer in the 44th minute. The Gunners absolutely dominated the first half of the game.
Arsenal teenager Smith Rowe nutmegs Kante
While every Arsenal player lived up to their reputation against Chelsea, Emile Smith Row grabbed everyone’s attention with special tricks and skills. The academy player was quite brilliant against Chelsea as he made ambitious forward passes in the game.
The teenager stole the spotlight after he cheekily nutmegged one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. Smith Rowe nutmegged Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante with such ease and the video of which has gone viral on social media portals.
Apart from his skills, he provided an assist to Bukayo Saka’s goal in the second half. Saka was only aiming to give a cross to the forward players. Though his intention was right, the ball beat the goalkeeper and went past him for a brilliant goal.
After scoring 3 goals, Arsenal players were still looking for chances to score a few more. Mohammed Elneny had a great chance to score a goal but the ball went on to hit the woodwork. Tammy Abraham scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 85th minute.
The Gunners play two away games
The Gunners will lock horns with Brighton in an away fixture on December 29. After that, they will travel to West Bromwich to play another Premier League game against the 19th ranked team on January 3, 2021.
After that, they will invite Newcastle United to The Emirates for FA Cup (3rd Round) on January 9. The Gunners are currently at 15th place in the PL points table with 17 points.
