Arsenal Transfer News: The Gunners are interested in bringing Arthur Melo to North London in January. But the deal seems to be in jeopardy as Juventus have made changes to the loan terms.

Mikel Arteta has been quite vocal about making signings in the January transfer window. One of the manager’s priorities is to secure a central midfielder as Arsenal are lacking personnel in his position.

Arsenal currently have Mohamed Elneny, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Granit Xhaka, and Thomas Partey as the possible options in central midfield. But out of these, only Thomas Partey has retained Mikel Arteta’s trust as of now.

With the transfer window ending in five days, Arsenal are yet to strike a deal with any player. Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes was reportedly the first choice signing for the Gunners, but the midfielder has chosen to remain in France for now.

As stated earlier, The Gunners had made Arthur Melo their priority signing after Bruno Guimaraes was not open to moving. But Juventus seem to have diminished Arsenal’s hopes after updating their loan terms.

Arsenal’s technical director Edu has been working on the Arthur Melo loan deal for the past few days. Owing to this, The Brazilian midfielder’s representatives had also visited Arsenal’s training facility last week.

Edu had reportedly been in contract with Juventus’ technical director Federico Cherubini as the duo discussed the terms of a loan. But the move seems to have hit a snag after Federico Cherubini and Juventus updated their loan terms.

As per The Athletic, The Juventus technical director is ready to let Arthur Melo leave on an 18-month loan deal. After this, Arsenal would have the option to purchase the midfielder for €40m if they would want to.

Edu has presented this offer to the Arsenal board, but they are reluctant over the updated terms. The Gunners are said to be wanting a 6-month loan deal with an option to buy. The North London club does not want an 18-month loan deal, as they are unsure about how Arthur Melo would perform.

Juventus, meanwhile, will be signing a replacement if Arthur leaves on loan. Hence it would be a problem for Arthur and the Serie A club if Arsenal would be unwilling to permanently sign him after the initial 6-month loan period.
