Arsenal Transfer News: The Gunners have targeted Bruno Guimaraes and Arthur Melo in January, but the club has had trouble signing them. Hence Arsenal are now said to be monitoring Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.
Mikel Arteta is in desperate need of a midfielder. And the Arsenal manager has already made it clear that the club’s board and technical directors are trying to recruit a new player in January.
The departure of Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sead Kolasinac has exposed the central midfield even more. Hence, Mikel Arteta now has only possible four options that he could play in the position.
With the January transfer window approaching the final five days, it is high time Arsenal sign a reputed player. Hence, for this reason, technical director Edu is now reportedly monitoring Douglas Luiz.
Will Arsenal sign Douglas Luiz in January?
As per Express UK, Edu has realized that he may not be able to land his preferred transfer targets. Owing to this, he has shifted his attention to the Aston Villa midfielder.
Arsenal’s technical director Edu is reportedly a keen admirer of Douglas Luiz. Hence, he has now stepped up his efforts to sign the midfielder to Arsenal. But the Gunners will face the test of time as the transfer window is set to expire within five days.
The Brazilian midfielder joined Aston Villa in 2019. Since then Luiz has been a key part of the Villains, making 33+ Premier League appearances in both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.
Douglas Luiz has again been favoured by new manager Steven Gerrard, who has regularly started him since joining the club. The Brazilian midfielder has made 17 Premier League appearances for Aston Villa, providing 3 assists this season.
As per reports, Arsenal were interested in snapping up the midfielder in the summer transfer window. But eventually decided against it as they needed funds for Ødegaard. With just five days remaining, it has to be seen if Arsenal can sign the midfielder this time around.
Why are Bruno Guimaraes and Arthur Melo not joining Arsenal?
Bruno Guimarães had initially wanted to stay at Olympique Lyon. And this is what he had communicated in earlier interviews. But it looks like the midfielder will be moving to Newcastle United in January.
Newcastle United have pipped Arsenal’s hopes by offering quadruple of his existing £40,000 salary if he decides to sign. The Magpies have reportedly made a transfer bid of £33 million to Olympique Lyon for the player.
Arthur Melo, on the other hand, is interested in joining Arsenal in January. But Juventus want to send him on an 18-month loan while Arsenal just want a 6-month loan for the Brazilian. Hence, there seems to be a difference of opinions between both the clubs that has terminated the deal.
