Arsenal Transfer News: The Gunners have completed the signing of a Major League Soccer defender. Mikel Arteta’s team has transferred in Colorado Rapids’ star center back Auston Trusty.

The January transfer window was not what the Arsenal supporters had expected. The Gunners could not complete a single major signing that they had set out to do. Hence, this should surely affect their chances to finish in the top four.

Mikel Arteta wanted to recruit a forward and a central midfielder in the January transfer window. But the Gunners were not able to, as all the players that they had targeted decided to stay at their clubs or move elsewhere.

Dusan Vlahovic and Bruno Guimarães were the center forward and central midfielders of choice for Arsenal. But the duo decided to move to Juventus and Newcastle United, respectively. The Gunners were also close to signing Arthur Melo, but the loan terms eventually ended the deal.

The Gunners have completed the signing of MLS defender Auston Trusty from the Colorado Rapids. But the star defender would join Arsenal in the summer after the end of the 2021/22 season.

The 23-year-old has previously played for Philadelphia Union before joining the Rapids in January 2020. Since then Auston Trusty has made 42 appearances and has even scored 1 goal for his team.

Apart from the MLS, the youngster has also represented the youth teams of the United States. Trusty has played for the U17, U20, and U23 sides. Auston Trusty was called up for the recent friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina but didn’t get a chance to play for the USMNT.

Owing to his defensive prowess, Trusty helped his Colorado Rapids team top the Western Conference in the 2021 MLS regular season. His performances have reportedly impressed the Arsenal top brass.

Arsenal put out a statement following the signing saying “Trusty, 23, will stay with the Colorado Rapids until at least the end of the Premier League season. The intention then is to loan him in Europe for the 2022/23 season to further progress his development.”

Hence, it could be at least a couple of seasons before the defender makes his debut for Arsenal. Nevertheless, this would be a great opportunity for Auston Trusty to get his career underway.

Can the Gunners cope without making a major signing in January?

The central midfield position looked very weak in January, but Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny’s return following the AFCON championship should certainly provide help.

Whereas, Arsenal only have Alexandre Lacazette and Edward Nketiah as the possible options in the attack following the departure of Aubameyang. Having not scored a single goal in their last four games, this would be the biggest cause of concern for Mikel Arteta in the next few months.
