Arsenal Transfer News: Hector Bellerin is willing to forego the remaining £5.7 million on his current Arsenal contract in order to return to Real Betis next season after a successful loan season.
The Spaniard spent last season on loan at the Andalusian club and would like to return. He is willing to forego his astronomical weekly income of £100,000 to secure his dream move, but Arsenal are demanding £8.5 million.
With his contract at the Emirates expiring in a year, the 27-year-old has given the Gunners a salary waiver in order to join the club. Arsenal, on the other hand, would prefer to get paid for their right-back.
Bellerin earlier admitted to losing interest in football while at North London. He found his form at his boyhood club and even helped Manuel Pellegrini’s side win the Copa del Rey after a penalty shootout victory over Valencia and a fifth-place finish in Spain’s top flight.
Arsenal Transfer News: What did Bellerin say?
“Thank you to everyone in the Betis world for letting me fall in love with this sport again. Your passion and for treating me like one of your own from the beginning,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Since the moment I walked into the locker room, my teammates have shown me courtesy, humility, and love. You’ve made me feel as if I’ve been a part of this for a lot longer than I actually have.”
Bellerin spoke on his future in October, suggesting that after his initial loan term, he would prefer to join Betis on a permanent basis. “I’m not sure,” he added, “but I’ve always stated it: if I didn’t want to be here next year, I wouldn’t have come from the start.”
“There are a lot of things that haven’t been decided yet. However, all I want to do is enjoy this year that I’m here, and whatever happens will happen.”
The Gunners rebuild
Mikel Arteta is interested in signing Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans. The sale of Bellerin for just under £10 million would help with their spending this summer.
Arsenal missed out on the Champions League on the last day of the season to Tottenham Hotspur. Mikel Arteta’s side was in top-4 for the majority of the season but they couldn’t get over the line.
Arteta has vowed to improve the team to challenge for the Champions League spot next season. However, the Gunners need to do a lot of work in the transfer market to make their dream come true.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that their team can get the required signings as soon as possible so that they can have a good pre-season together.
