Arsenal transfer news: The Gunners are interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz before the transfer deadline.
Luiz has established himself among the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League since joining Aston Villa from Manchester City in the summer window of 2019. He has played 107 league games for the Birmingham outfit so far, scoring six goals.
The Brazil international was the Villians’ top performer during their run to the final of the 2019-20’s EFL Cup, making six appearances during the competition.
His form in the Claret and Blue also led to a first senior Brazil cap in November 2019. He has represented the South American nation nine times since making his debut.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal is working on signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz. The player is also keen on joining the London outfit.
However, signing the Brazil international won’t be easy as Villa is reluctant to sell him this late in the window. Nevertheless, Luiz is currently in the final year of his contract at Villa Park, which could force the Birmingham-based club to cash in for him this summer as opposed to letting him leave for free in 2023.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have enjoyed an excellent transfer window under Mikel Arteta. They have signed Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, and Marquinhos has joined their camp so far.
Arteta is looking to bring in more fresh faces to his squad, with Mykhaylo Mudryk, Danilo, and Youri Tielemans also being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium recently.
What will Douglas Luiz bring to Emirates Stadium?
Valued at £34.20 million by TransferMarkt, Luiz is a tenacious footballer who likes to operate as a defensive midfielder. His key strengths are his concentration and passing skills, along with his ability to take set pieces.
He played four league games this season, scoring one goal. According to WhoScored, the Brazillian averaged 0.5 interceptions, 0.5 key passes, and 24.8 passes in the Premier League this term.
