The Gunners are desperately looking to sign Zaha
Arsenal’s pursuit of Brazil forward Everton Soares is sending a message to Crystal Palace that they may move on from trying to sign Wilfried Zaha, claims Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
Reports this week claimed Arsenal are keen on signing Gremio forward Everton.
The 23-year-old starred for Brazil in their recent triumphant Copa America campaign.
There has been some talk a deal has been agreed between Arsenal and Gremio for Everton, though Sheth says that is not something he has heard yet.
The Gunners had a £40million bid turned down for Zaha earlier this month, with Palace wanting around £80m for the Ivorian winger.
Sheth also says Atletico Madrid will provide competition to Arsenal for Everton.
“We’re told that Arsenal are interested in the Gremio forward Everton Soares,” Sheth said on the Transfer Talk podcast.
“Now, the player himself claims he’s got an offer on the plate but he won’t say from which club.
“Now, it should be said that I think Everton is seen as a more financially viable option than the Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha.
“Or if you’re looking at this cynically, maybe is it a way of Arsenal sending a message to Crystal Palace?
“‘Look, we might be moving on so you might not get this money that we potentially could offer you’.
“[Everton] came into the Copa America after Neymar was injured, did really well, was named man of the match in the final against Peru. It seems Arsenal have got a bit of competition as well and it comes in the form of Atletico Madrid, who can offer Champions League football as well.
“It’s been reported that Atletico are prepared to pay £30.5m for Everton.
“Arsenal interested but as it stands that’s as far as it’s going as we are aware.
“There are reports in South America even that a deal has been agreed there – we haven’t heard that just yet.”
Arsenal would still desperately look to sign Zaha. Zaha has proved he deserves to be in a top 4 team by helping Crystal Palace stay for another season at the Premier League.
