Reports from Spain
AS have reported that Arsenal might be interested in securing the Spanish-Dominican youngster. Junior’s current deal runs to 2021 and carries a €25m buyout clause. Betis are pushing thee people from the player’s camp to open talks about a new agreement. The defender only made his Betis debut in February but was a revelation for Quique Setien’s team in the second-half of last season.
Junior Firpo grew up in Benalmadena (Malaga) and stood out as a youngster in Puerto Malagueno. He later joined the lower categories of Betis in 2014. After doing the preseason with the first squad of Quique Setien and playing several friendlies, the Dominican defender renewed his contract with the Verdiblancos until 2021.
The player has played the majority of his football on the left side. He is known for his attacking attributes and ability on the ball. His pace allows him to bomb down the left flank with lots of ease and grace. Since the Spanish manager decided to bet on him in the match against Deportivo de La Coruna, the Dominican player has not disappeared from the eleven. He also provides many alternatives in the different tasks entrusted to him by Setien.
Both Setien and the Betis hierarchy trust the player to take the leap into top level football. They have decided against bringing in players to give chances to the academy graduate. On-field performances by the youngster have certainly enhanced their faith in him. The player can expect an improved payday before the ball is kicked in August.
Unai Emery has to do a lot of things right to stand a chance of winning anything at The Emirates. But the new Arsenal boss has started pulling the strings by reinforcing the squad. It looks Betis are likely to tie Firpo down with a new contract, blocking any offers in the process. Gunners will be hoping that he can influence in a positive way if he somehow moves to North London.
