During Arsenal’s match against Burnley on Sunday, Arsene Wenger might have just landed him a ten-match suspension for misconduct. Wenger might have just surpassed Jose Mourinho in terms of displaying excitement in front of a match official.
The Arsenal manager was seen pushing Anthony Taylor when the additional time was announced. Any manager would be furious to see seven minutes additional time being added to a game while his team is in the lead, but this is not acceptable. Wenger is certainly not expected to display his emotions in such a manner.
Wenger realised his mistake after the final whistle was blown. However, had the game ended in a draw or a loss for Arsenal, Wenger would certainly not have seen his mistake. Even now, he knows that he might be penalised for his misconduct, which could even ban him for 10 games.
For Arsenal, the game had suddenly heated up when Burnley scored from the penalty. Wenger didn’t want to settle for a draw after Sanchez’s penalty brought Arsenal back in the lead. Wenger’s frustration was imminent, as he pushed the match official. The steam only came off when the game was over, and Arsenal’s win was confirmed.

With the addition of Antoine Conte, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola the Premier League atmosphere has become very intense. This is evident with the behaviour of the managers (still) competing for the top finish. In such a situation, match officials are the ones who are always pushed around and screamed at, either by the players or by their managers. Sometimes, the reaction is because of the frustration or because the player got caught.
Times have changed, and now at the end of every match, the losing team feels that they have been wronged. There is pre-conceived notion that official was biased against them. Whether it is missing fouls, or goals scored from an off-side position, or even the additional time, teams blame it all on the officials.
But certainly, in this situation, Wenger was at fault for taking it out on the official. He might have to enjoy the games away from the field, surely away from Anthony Taylor.
