Tough times don’t seem to be just behind Arsenal anytime soon. As soon as good things tend to happen, things go back to the worst. Things started off very well under Arteta, especially when they won the FA Cup and the Community Shield. To add to it Aubameyang signed a contract extension and they even managed to sign Thomas Partey and Gabriel without Champions League football.
However, things have horribly gone wrong for them this season. Currently, Arsenal is 15th in the table and some have said that they are relegation candidates. They have struggled to score goals from open play and they are winless in thier previous seven Premier League games.
But right now, Arsenal wants to back Arteta as they still believe he is the right man to lead the club. The Spaniard has revealed that the Gunners have made plans for thier next two transfer windows. The January transfer window will open in a few days and the next transfer window will open in the summer of 2021.
It is clear that the Gunners did not appoint Arteta to be relegation candidates. They are a club that has historically challenged for the title. Arsenal wants to be there and the first step towards it will be to change thier present situation.
Philippe Coutinho linked with Arsenal
According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Barca wants to sell Coutinho. The article said that the Catalans are ‘desperate‘ to sell Coutinho. The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past and last summer he was tipped to join the Gunners.
Barca signed Coutinho from Liverpool in January 2018. They signed him for £105 million with bonus and add-on clauses which could take his totally fees to £142 million. However, it is clear that the Brazilian has not even been worth half that money.
Last season they have to again pay Liverpool bonus money as Coutinho won the Champions League. However, he did not win it with Barca but he won it when he was on loan to Bayern Munich. The Catalans don’t want to pay more of his bonus money.
This season if he makes another ten appearances they will have to pay Liverpool another £18million. According to The Express, the Emirates could potentially be his next destination. Though it would be interesting to see how Arsenal will be able to pull this one-off.
Christian Eriksen to Arsenal
Despite his Tottenham past, Arsenal has been linked with a move for Christian Eriksen. According to La Gazzetta Dello and translated by Sport, Premier League is his potential destination. Since his move to Inter, Eriksen has struggled for game time.
The Danish international does not fit Antonio Conte’s style of play, as a result of which game time has been limited for him. He only joined the Nerrazurri last year in January 2020. However even this summer he was linked with an exit from the club.
There has been speculation that he might leave San Siro in January. Inter CEO Marotta confirmed that Eriksen is on the transfer list. He also confirmed that he will leave the club in January. However, it is still not clear whether he will join Arsenal or not.
Though the Italian media has said that Premier League is his likely destination but it is possible his future might be elsewhere. PSG have also been linked with a move for him. While Bayern hasn’t exactly replaced Thiago and Eriksen, though a different player but he can still do a good job.
