Arteta seeks a left-back, prepares two exits as the deadline day closes in

Arsenal is in the midway of completing the transfers. The club only has a week left to make further changes in the squads. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta is looking for a left-back and with this, the club is eyeing to offload a player or more in order to balance the total number of players in the squad.

The latest 3-1 win over Southampton in the Premier league helped Arsenal to jump to eight positions in the table. The club was seen in full form at St Mary as they cast the revenge and made up for the FA cup exit. The goals from Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe, and Alexandre Lacazatte helped Arsenal to seal a win and continue their undefeated form in five Premier League games.

Arsenal has been active in making additions in the form of Matt Aryan and Martin Odegaard(who is all set to arrive at the Emirates Stadium. But as February 2 edges closer the club is expected to get a lot busier. In order to avoid financial load on any of the club. The clubs are offering the loans deals. Moreover, William Saliba, Sead Kolasinac, Sokratis, Matt Macey, and Mesut Ozil have all left the club on loan or permanently.

Ozil, Sokratis and Kolasinac exit

Arsenal is taking all the steps to keep the number of players as per the rules given by Premier League and Europa League. The rule clearly states that any football club can only have 17 foreign players in their squad and a total of 25 players in the team. Hence Mikel Arteta and Edu are keeping a close eye to trim down the squad if another signing is made.

Ozil, Sokratis and Kolasinac exit

Back in the summer when Arteta was forced to omit players from the squad Mesut Ozil and Sokratis were chosen to exit the 25- man squad list. This not only impacted team morale but also created a significant amount of disturbance among the squad. Mikel Arteta expressed his thoughts over the omission and said the club cannot carry 31-players.

The whole scenario becomes unmanageable and it becomes more difficult to pull down the foreign players. Though it works fine for a week implementing the same for months and meanwhile maintains the health, chemistry, and ambition. It gets really complicated said the manager.

Arteta also added that one of his objectives is that each player feels involved and that they have a chance. But if a player I’s completely out of the frame. Then it becomes extremely difficult to find motivation or anything.

Now that Arsenal has cut down the number of homegrown players to 16 in the squad. Adding Matt Ryan to the team again fills in the quota of foreign players. In case Arsenal wants to make furthermore addition they would again need to offload a few of them to balance the number.

Possible names to make an exit

Mustafi could exit in January after contract termination at Arsenal

Arsenal has few names that might leave the squad in January among them Shkodran Mustafi top of the list. The German has struggled with the regular playtime in this campaign and is placed in the backing order behind David Luiz, Gabriel, Rob Holding, Pablo Mari, and Calum Chambers.

Mustafi is attracting interest from Italy. He is involved in the talks with Arsenal over terminating his contract as it is due to expire at the end of this season. If Mustafi leaves the club it will make a space for Martin Odegaard to fill in. But Arsenal would need to offload another player from the team if the last-minute signing happens.

Arsenal could add Alex Runar Runarrson to that list. After the arrival of Matt Ryan and giving away the series of disappointing performances in the Europa League and Carabao Cup. Arsenal might send him on the loan move for developing his skills. Moreover Arthur Okonkwo and Karl Hein ready to step up from the under-23s into the first team

However, Arteta has dropped a hint that he wants to keep Runarrson by saying that every club needs three goalkeepers. This in turn will create healthy competition. The three of them AI challenge each other, support each other and get the best out of each other. This should be the role.

Torriera loan could be terminated

Torriera loan could be terminated

Arsenal is concerned about the growth and how the game time will affect Lucas Torreira’s price tag. Lucas Torreira is facing a hard time at Atletico Madrid after sealing a loan move on summer deadline day. But Arsenal has an option to terminate the loan ahead of the schedule.

Edu said to AS in Spain that Arsenal is concerned about Torreira’s happiness and that he gets enough playtime. The club would ask both the parties and then only one can come up with the conclusion. He also said that many clubs are making approaches to learn about player’s situations. If things are well then Arsenal will continue like this but if not then there are other alternatives.

A new left-back

Arsenal is linked with a move for Ryan Bertrand of Southampton

Arsenal has expressed the desire to bring in the new left-back in January. The departure of Sead Kolasinac has made Arsenal a bit short of the players in this position. Arsenal has Cedric, Bukayo Sana, and Ainsley at Kolasinac position but none of them assure the long-term replacement.

Arteta has mentioned that the option is open and they will see what is available. Arsenal is only linked with a move for Ryan Bertrand of Southampton. The left-back only has six months left in his contract and Arsenal is keeping a close eye on his situation.
