Ashes 2021-22: The second test match between England and Australia is currently ongoing. And the Ashes game is being played at the Adelaide Oval in North Adelaide, Australia.
Australia won the toss and they went on to bat first in the second test match. This test match will also be a day-night test match which will be played with the pink ball. Australia will be without Pat Cummins for this test match.
It is because a close contact of Pat Cummins got tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. And hence the Australian test captain had to move into isolation. However, it is expected that Pat Cummins would be back for the third test.
Moreover, England are welcoming back two of their main fast bowlers. Both James Anderson and Stuart Broad are back in the starting lineup. And hence this is a huge boost for England in the pink ball test match.
However, Australian batsman Marcus Harris got out for cheap in the beginning hour of the match itself. But David Warner kept hold of his inning.
Moreover, he went on to play calmly against the English fast bowlers. As a result of that, David Warner went on to score 95 runs in the first innings.
Even Marnus Labuschagne went on to play a brilliant knock. He went on to hit his first Ashes century at the Adelaide Oval. The Aussies went on to finish at 473. They declared their innings after scoring enough runs against England.
Ashes 2021-22: Fans gather at Adelaide Oval to pay tribute to Richie Benaud
The temperature at the Adelaide Oval is increasingly hot as this is the peak summertime for the Australian subcontinent. However, the day still saw a few spells of rains and the day was called off without bowling the complete overs.
But despite the scorching heat, more than 100 fans had gathered at the Adelaide Oval to pay tributes to Richie Benaud. The majority of those fans went on to dress up like the great Richie Benaud with old-style mics on their hands.
A fan wrote, “As much as I love Richie Benaud there’s no way I would wear the beige/cream/ivory/off-white jacket and put on a wig in 37° degree heat.”
Another fan wrote, “Simply marvellous! 100 Australian cricket fans defy the 37 degrees Adelaide heat to dress up as the late, great Richie Benaud – brandishing microphones and wearing wigs and his trademark cream jacket at the second Ashes Test.”
This was a fitting tribute to Richie Benaud who is regarded as the voice of cricket. Richie Benaud did not have a glamorous cricketing career but he did fairly well as a cricket commentator in Australia.
