Asia Cup 2022: Virat Kohli once dominated the sport across formats. The right handed batsman found it literally much easier to take the attack to the cleaners more often than not.
He is often called the chase master because of his sheer ability to take the game away from the opposition and finish the games in style. In fact, everything went so smoothly for him.
All of a sudden, things did take a turn in his cricketing career at the end of 2019. He last scored an international century in that year against Bangladesh during a day-night pink-ball affair.
Since then, he struggled to pick up form where his form turned from bad to worse over the years. The right-handed batsman has chipped in with a string of poor scores whenever he played for Team India.
The veteran cricketer didn’t play against West Indies in the recently-concluded tour. He skipped three ODIs and five T20Is. Many felt that he shouldn’t have skipped T20Is.
It’s due to the fact that India will be playing Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022. Kohli has also been rested for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe which begins on August 18.
Asia Cup 2022: Aakash Chopra feels Asia Cup is the perfect setup for Virat Kohli
Earlier, Virat Kohli himself set major goals as he wishes to win both Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup 2022 for Team India. For that, he is ready to give anything for the team.
It remains to be seen how Virat Kohli would make a comeback in the futuristic events. Team India will kick-start their Asia Cup campaign by taking on Pakistan cricket team.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul made a return to the Asia Cup squad. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra is of the opinion that the upcoming edition of Asia Cup is a perfect setup for Kohli.
“I am not sure how Virat is feeling or how the team is feeling, but as a watcher, I have decreased my expectations. The reason is that no one on this team, in my opinion, would play for a hundred. Whether it is Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul, they both start swinging the bat as soon as they reach 50,” Chopra added.
Virat Kohli is yet to score a century in T20Is. It is one record that he will surely be targeting in the upcoming main events. He has played 99 T20Is scoring 3308 runs at an average of 50.1 including 30 fifties.
“You want to travel there if 220 is feasible. Do not be content with 210, 190, or 180. A player is given the freedom to play freely if the team bats with that mentality. If so, I will not be evaluating a player based on statistics,” Aakash Chopra said.
