According to the recent report by Sunday Mirror, Man Utd are set to complete a £60m move for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld in the next 48 hours.

Manchester United have been searching desperately for a defender. Constant rumours of the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina have been floating around the corner. It seems now the Red Devils are all set to finally sign Tottenham Hotspur star Alderweireld.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is demanding £60million for the centre-back, who is desperately wanted by United. Levy, a notoriously tough negotiator, has put the sky-high price tag on the Belgium World Cup star even though he turns 30 in March and has one year left on his White Hart Lane contract.
Alderweireld would represent the signing Mourinho has been chasing for a while – a proven, experienced leader who can solidify a shaky defence. Manchester United were thought to have turned their attention elsewhere, but perhaps it was just a smokescreen to instigate new transfer talks with Tottenham once more.
The Red Devils had previously been unwilling to meet Spurs’ £75m valuation of the 29-year-old, but a breakthrough now appears to have been reached between the two clubs.
Alderweirald had a curtailed season last year with the Spurs due to injury, but was very impressive in the World Cup which led to the rumours of his departure.
Mourinho has told the Old Trafford board that he needs a high-class centre-back with experience after signing Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof – and now it appears the Portuguese has finally got his man after playing the waiting game.

Author’s Take:

Toby Alderweireld is a world class defender and he has shown his worth time and time again with the Spurs and a great performance in the World Cup. If he moves to Manchester United and performs well, he could be a superstar there and Mourinho’s defensive style of play might suit him and he could be an apt leader of the defence of the Red Devils.
