According to the latest reports, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are interested in bringing back Chelsea’s star winger Pedro back to Spain in the upcoming January transfer window.
Pedro made the move to the English Premier League back in 2015 when he joined Chelsea from Barcelona in a £19 million deal and the Spanish star has helped the Blues to win the Premier League, FA Cup, and the Europa League during his stint at Stamford Bridge.
But ever since the appointment of Frank Lampard at the helm in the summer, Pedro hasn’t actually managed to cement a spot for himself in the starting eleven. The 41-year-old Lampard has chosen to promote youth and give the youngsters at the club an opportunity to prove themselves.
Due to this, Pedro has managed only three Premier League appearances so far this season and the 32-year-old is reportedly looking for a way out from the Stamford Bridge outfit. The lack of game time is frustrating for a player that still has quite a bit to offer and reports have claimed that Diego Simeone is keeping tabs on Pedro in order to lure him to Atletico Madrid.
With the January transfer window, fast approaching top clubs in the European continent are looking to target their players and rope their acquisitions. Atletico wouldn’t hesitate in making a move in the winter window for Pedro if the Spaniard spends more time on the bench rather than playing regular football.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone believes that Pedro can be a good addition to his side and with seven years of playing experience in La Liga with Barcelona, he will not take much time settling down in his native. There are only two months left for the January transfer window to open and Pedro is linked with a move to the Wanda Metropolitano but should Chelsea decide to offload a player with such experience in the pretense of playing their young players?
Pedro has won 5 La Liga titles, three Champions League titles and three Super Cups as well with Barcelona and despite Lampard wanting Pedro utilized in the League Cup, the veteran midfielder could make the move away from West London.
I think that Chelsea should try and keep a hold of Pedro because he is one of the few players at the club that has experience and can guide the younger players. If Lampard focuses on youth there will be too much of expectations and pressure on the young guns to deliver all the time.
