For almost three seasons now Antoine Griezmann has been linked with Manchester United. To the extent that now Atletico Madrid’s President, Enrique Cerezo, finds it amusing that a player of Griezmann’s stature would settle for Manchester United.
Perhaps Enrique is speaking out of sheer frustration. His team has been consistently making it to the final stages of all tournaments and yet they resist the temptation called Manchester United.
The fact is that Griezmann is no longer satisfied at Atletico. He is unsettled and is looking to move out of Spain. But with his dropping form, no team other Manchester United would be willing to match the asking price. Amidst such situations, it is natural that the speculations of his transfer to Manchester emerged.
Enrique let his frustration out as he replied, “Manchester United? Small team. I believe in the contracts that people sign, that goes for Simeone and Griezmann.”

It appears to be Griezmann’s wish to join his friend Paul Pogba at Manchester United. Griezmann’s links to United had further strengthened when the number 7 jersey was vacated over the January transfer window.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic aging, Griezmann would be the perfect striker for Mourinho.
However, English Premier League is completely different from the Spanish League. The games are more competitive and there is a fierce rivalry. Greizmann might not enjoy the same success in Manchester that he enjoyed in Madrid.
Manchester United has not played in the final stages of any European Championship since Sir Alex retired. It is natural that Enrique would be agitated. His team has been doing everything right, yet they lose in finals. And to top this, their star players want a transfer to a non-Champions League playing club.

At the end of the season, Enrique might lose both his striker and his manager. At this stage, you can’t help but feel for the man.
