Barcelona have reportedly agreed on a big money transfer for Atletico Madrid’s forward Antoine Griezmann. The French forward has also been a long time target for Manchester United.
The international break has brought some delightful news for Barcelona fans. Reports from French media sources claim that Atletico Madrid and France star Antoine Griezmann will be leaving Madrid for the Catalan giants. A deal has already been agreed ‘in principle’ that will see Griezmann move for a big transfer sum, next summer.
This news is surely going to upset Manchester United, who were very close to signing the Frenchman if not for Atletico’s transfer ban. Jose Mourinho will now be assessing his options ahead of Griezmann’s likely move to Barcelona.

Antoine Griezmann’s transfer could be a bargain for Barcelona
For a few years now, Griezmann has been highly rated as a striker. He has single-handedly led Diego Simeone’s side in attack and has produced some important moments for them. However, he has yet to taste success in La Liga, which might tempt him to move to Barcelona. The alternate option and the more likely one seems that he will move to United in the summer.
French media outlet Le10 Sport have reported that Griezmann is looking to leave Atletico at the end of the season. The arrival of Diego Costa in January might be a factor in his departure as well.
Barcelona are looking for a multi-faceted forward and believe that Griezmann is the best option for them. He will also present to be a viable long-term replacement for the aging Luis Suarez.
Griezmann has been one of La Liga’s top forwards since his move from Real Sociedad.
Le 10 Sport further reports that Griezmann’s transfer can happen due to a clause in his contract. The clause enables Barcelona to sign him for €100 million (£90m). This represents a real bargain in today’s market when we think about Neymar’s £198m move to Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
If Barcelona meet Atletico’s release clause, they will have no choice but to accept the offer. Given Atletico’s inability to win the title in recent times, Griezmann might consider moving to Barcelona for the greater good of his career in terms of trophies.
