Rumors have started creeping over Nelson Semedo’s future in the Barcelona Team. Real Betis’ full-back Emerson is one of the prime names to get linked to Barça to succeed Nelson Semedo. The 20-year-old has already scored three times in his first full season with Real Betis. He has also provided four assists in this season. Courtesy of his performances, Tite called him from under 23 Team to Brazils’ senior team. He was part of the team that won 3-0 against South Korea last November.
Barça looking to find the successor of Dani Alves
His playmaking skills and also his proximity to Brazil has earned him comparisons to Right Back Dani Alves. Dani Alves was arguably the best right-back for FC Barcelona, The Blaugrana side disrespectfully sold him for free to Juventus in 2016. Since then, Barcelona has not found a suitable heir to Dani Alves. The Catalans fancy Emerson to be heir to their decorated former right back.
Barcelona fought Nelson Semedo to replace Dani Alves, thinking he will be the best candidate to replace Dani Alves. The Club deemed him untransferable last summer when a lot of high profile clubs came in pursuit of him. The Club Director Eric Abidal, however, has met with Semedo’s agent Jorge Mendes in Dubai during the Christmas to discuss the player’s future. Sergi Roberto’s re-emergence as Right Back during Semedo’s five week’s calf injury layoff is one of the main reasons for this. The La Masia Star is still unable to find a place in Barcelona’s tightly packed midfield. So Barcelona has to buy a natural right-back to provide him a healthy competition.
Lukas Klostermann in the radar of FC Barcelona
Many significant Reports have already emerged before Barcelona’s 2-2 draw against Espanyol. They claimed Barca had turned their attention to RB Leipzig’s Lukas Klostermann. The Geman’s contract expires in 2021 but has a release clause of $39mn. Juventus and Bayern Munich also chasing him. With Emerson at FCB’s disposal, everyone believes that Barcelona will not pay such a high amount of fee to buy Klostermann.
Emerson is the prime target of Barcelona to replace Nelson Semedo.
Barça and Real Betis jointly bought Emerson from Atletico Madrid. The two clubs split his $14.2mn fee. Barcelona is allowed to take Emerson provided they pay the remaining half by 2021. Reports do not claim the exact details, but Emerson has told in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, “there is a clause, but if I go there (before 2021), Barça must pay a fine, which I don’t know is how much.”
Some reports say that the fee is $13.4mn, but Sports Daily has revealed the price to be close to $18mn. Nevertheless, his price tag will continue increasing as long as he puts up his impressive performances. Barcelona prefers Emerson over Klostermann since the former has double the number of appearances than the latter, has plenty of Laliga appearances, and is way cheaper than the latter.
