Barcelona Legend Eric Abidal can’t understand why Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele have been signed if the club wants to bring in Antonie Griezmann.
Barcelona has been pretty rampant in the transfer market of late. Including the £80 Million signing bonus Lionel Messi received for signing a new contract, Barcelona has now spent close to £350 Million in this transfer window. The amount is spent on forwards alone as they spent £135.5m for bringing Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund and £108 Million + signing bonuses for bringing Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

If you include the re-signing of Gerard Deulofeu and the addition of Yerry Mina from Palmeiras, it makes for the biggest spree of spending by a single club ever seen in the history of football. But it has been reported that Barcelona still remains interested in signing Antonie Griezmann from Los Rojiblancos to bolster their attacking options.
Well, former Barcelona player Eric Abidal has a very interesting opinion on Griezmann links and club’s hefty spending. The legend has questioned Catalan’s transfer strategy. In an interview with El Larguero, Abidal said: “If you want Suarez, Messi, and Griezmann, why sign Dembele? There are questions. Signing Coutinho means some will have to sit on the bench, that is why I say it is good to sign great players but it depends on the vision of the club.
In football, the future is more important and it is better to have the best players on your team. Having a player like Griezmann in your team is always an advantage.”

While the Frenchmen hasn’t hit the heights expected from him at Camp Nou, Abidal is happy to give Dembele time. Abidal added: “[Dembele] is very young and has a lot of talent. We are all waiting for him to return to his best. I don’t doubt his performances and the work that he will do at the club.
It is very difficult to change team; the body has to adapt and his diary and nutrition will be different.”
I do agree with what Abidal had to say. It doesn’t make any sense to bring Griezmann to the club if Coutinho and Dembele are already in the squad. Even though Griezmann would add some real quality to the squad but on the risk of one star being benched.
