Barcelona is chasing Benfica and Portugal youngster who has been called the next big thing, but face competition from both Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The 16-year-old starlet has been selected as a future star by scouts and has been shortlisted by top European clubs, which includes the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, RB Leipzig, and even Real Madrid. However, despite that, it looks like Barcelona and Manchester United are the key players in the race for Umaro Embalo’s signature.
While the Portuguese is still only 16-years-old, he’s excelled for Benfica so far and not only that, has the ability to play across the front, predominantly as a striker. Embalo joined the Portuguese giants in 2015 and has since been hailed as one of the top talents to emerge from Portugal. However, while Barcelona does lead the race for the youngster, Manchester United have already made contact with the 16-year-old’s agent.
“‘Nothing is done, and the conversation, nobody communicated anything to me, nor to the parents. He has interest from several clubs, because he is an asset of Benfica and has gone down this route well,” Embalo’s agent said in an interview.
“I can say that all the great clubs in Europe have already asked for information about Umaro, from Germany, England, Spain, France. If he’s going to Manchester is something that I don’t know at all, but it’s true that we have already met with Benfica and Manchester, there is no agreement, but there are conversations.”
A left-footer who prefers to play on the right wing, Umaro Embalo has already drawn comparisons from former Real Madrid and Manchester United star Angel Di Maria. Not only that, he excels at crossing, dribbling and is slowly showing his lethal finishing ability in front of goal. With 15 goals in 18 games for both Portugal and Benfica’s U-17 sides.
While Umaro Embalo is still only 16 years old, the youngster has the whole world ahead of him. But a move to either Barcelona, Manchester United or even Real Madrid won’t be good for his development at least right now. However, with RB Leipzig announcing their interest in the Portugal international, things could certainly get interesting.
