Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann has reportedly contacted Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante about a potential transfer to the La Liga giants.
Barcelona are reportedly back in the transfer market looking for another midfield option after having signed Frenkie De Jong from Ajax in the summer transfer window. Chelsea superstar N’Golo Kante might just be the Blaugrana’s next target if reports from Spain are to be believed. The report also states that Kante might be on the way out looking for a new club if the Blues fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
Barcelona have an excellent crop of French players with the likes of Griezmann, Clement Lenglet, Jean Clair Todibo, Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele in their squad. According to Don Balon, the former Athletico Madrid man who joined Barcelona in the summer for a transfer fee of around €125m, is trying his level best to convince Kante to join the strong French contigent at the Nou Camp.
The former Leicester City man could be an ideal replacement for the ageing Sergio Busquets, who is already 31 and at the twilight of his career. The central midfielder has been has been instrumental in multiple title-winning runs for the Blaugrana over the last decade but has lost some of his potency at the base of midfield, prompting the club to explore younger options in that area.
Kante is currently facing an injury issue and is set to miss Chelsea’s next UCL group stage clash against Ajax on Wednesday. Chelsea Boss Frank Lampard revealed that the midfielder is back in training but will miss the encounter against the Dutch side. He added that there are still doubts over his availability for the weekend when the Blues face Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
“N’Golo is training again but it’s not clear whether he will be fit for the weekend or not,” Lampard said in his pre-match conference.
