Barcelona and Liverpool set to go head to head for a highly rated French star

Barca Coutinho

Barcelona and the Reds have been going head to head for quite some-time, and now the two giants are set to go after a world-class French star in January.

Barcelona and Liverpool have a rich history of transfers between the La Liga and the Premier League sides, with eight players playing for both sides. However, in recent years the likes of Pepe Reina, Luis Garcia, Javier Mascherano, Luis Suarez and now Philippe Coutinho have all made the switch been the two sides. Now the two sides are set to battle it out for France star Adrien Rabiot, with reports emerging that the two European giants lead the race.

The 22-year-old has done really well for the Ligue 1 giants and given that he made his debut as a 17-year-old back in 2012, Rabiot has made 198 appearances for the club, becoming a regular starter over the last few seasons. However now with the Frenchman stalling on a potential new contract extension with PSG, reports from Bleacher Report reveal that Barcelona and Liverpool are in prime position to sign the star.

PSG have desperately tried to get Rabiot to commit to a new deal, with even President Nasser Al-Khelaifi revealing that the 23-year-old has turned down numerous offers at a new deal. . The club somehow managed to come up with an offer of 8 million per season, but that hasn’t satisfied the former Manchester City star, and the report further adds that Rabiot wants to try his hand at another league, which plays a big role in his decision.

This leaves the door wide open for any one interest in a world-class midfielder, but it has been revealed that Barcelona and Liverpool are the two main contenders for the 23-year-old, alongside Juventus, Real Madrid and even AC Milan.

Author’s take:

Adrien Rabiot is very talented, that’s something any football fan can see, but will his attitude be his downfall in the end? This never-ending saga with PSG could play a massive impact when the transfer window opens, and while clubs may want to sign him, they will do so cautiously knowing what the Frenchman has already rejected from PSG.
