Barcelona have proposed the introduction of a new crest for the first time since 2002. However, their fans are completely against it and have grown livid with the club’s officials.
Barcelona is planning to undergo a lot of changes in their original club crest and they uploaded a video depicting what the new one would look like on their Twitter handle some weeks back. However, Barcelona’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu has now postponed the voting process from the club’s members after protests against it from many.
As a result, the President announced in the AGM on Saturday that the club will postpone the initiation of the voting procedure and that there will be a period of “internal reflections” to look at the proposed club crest. It was the first change in the club’s logo since 2002 but the fans were really unhappy.
“Since the design was last updated in 2002, the context, society, and technology have changed enormously, and the symbols identified with the club need to evolve too,” a statement released last month said.
“The evolution stays faithful to the historical elements of the crest: the city, Barcelona, the country, Catalonia, the club, the Blaugrana colors and the ball.
“But the new design now has greater reproduction capacity, especially in the increasingly more important world of digital media.”
It would be the 10th time since their foundation in 1899 that Barcelona has updated their badge.’
Author’s Take :
It is certainly a poor step from the radical fans of Barcelona to oppose the creation of the new club crest. The logo is undergoing a change after nearly two decades and will showcase a much modern look. In my opinion, it will be good to see Barcelona endorse a newer crest with better and new details now.
