Barcelona hits another setback with ‘impossible’ to sign transfer target

Barcelona finally is able to concentrate on the transfer window. There prevailed a period of extreme unrest. The board received heavy criticism for its antics during the Lionel Messi transfer saga.

President Josep Bartomeu was the main accused who blocked the move. The dressing room seems a bit settled after their dismal knock out from the Champions League.

The Catalan club has made only two signings this summer. Miralem Pjanic came in a swap deal for Arthur Melo from Juventus. Youngster Francisco Trincao joined Barcelona from Portuguese outfit Braga. The current transfer season has been uneventful for the club.

Barcelona facing economic problems

Lack of funds is one of the main issues Barca is facing this season. The coronavirus pandemic ruined financial strength. Therefore, big-money signings are not going to take place.

Barcelona will have to make sales and gain funds to invest in its target. The board decided to make the majority of players available for transfer in this transfer window.

However, Barcelona is yet to receive huge bids for their players. Veteran midfielder Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal left the club for a meager sum. Rakitic returned to its former club, Sevilla. Inter Milan snapped up the defensive midfielder, Vidal, and bolster their squad. Luis Suarez is close to leaving Camp Nou with talks of contract termination on hold.

It is quite a matter of concern for the members of the club along with Ronald Koeman. He is unable to acquire the players in his shortlist. The Dutch manager finalized his team for the upcoming campaign and venturing the market. Nelson Semedo is nearing the exit door as he may fetch some money.

Premier League clubs like Wolverhampton Wolves are looking forward to signing the right-back. Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo reported said they are ‘working on the deal’, as per Marca. Semedo has a €40 million price tag. His transfer could help bring in two new players for Barcelona including Eric Garcia.

Who will replace Nelson Semedo?

Barcelona has not determined the replacement for Semedo. Sergi Roberto is a natural option to fill in the position. However, it is not quite sure with Junior Firpo showing versatility. Also, Barca is trying to fetch Emerson from Betis before 2021.

The Catalunya outfit and Real Betis together paid  €12.7 million for the Brazilian in 2019. Barcelona contributed €6 million in the joint venture. The contract was set in such a way that Barca could pay an additional €6 million to sign Emerson to gain overall economic rights in 2021.

The Blaugrana were trying to do the same in this very season monitoring his consistent performances. Moreover, Koeman is short of options in the defense. Emerson could add quality and bolster the backline. Unfortunately, Barcelona is not going to have it their way.

Real Betis Sporting Director ruled out the possibility of the transfer of this campaign. Antonio Cordon stressed on the clauses in the contract which abides Emerson as a Betis player. Barcelona has no power to sign him before 2021.
