Quique Setien started his managerial career on the winning note, registering a 1-0 win against Granada at home. He promised to bring the Cryuff style back in Barcelona. The team showcased his philosophy in the first match under him itself. The team registered season-high tallies for both possession and passes. Barcelona showed their complete command on that game as they dominated the possession and created plenty of chances. Setien started with his favourable 3-5-2 formation going forward and reverted to 4-3-3 while defending.
Barcelona played beautifully with excellent passing accuracy. The build-up was full of intent. The only problem in the setup was finishing. In an exclusive interview with Onda Cero (Diario Sport), following Barca’s 1-0 win against Granada, ex-Barcelona and Real Madrid player Bernd Schuster suggested his views. He told Barca should buy a replacement to the injured Luis Suarez. In his opinion, neither Antoine Griezmann nor Luis Suarez will want to play as the sole No 9. “Barca has a significant problem with the absence of Luis Suarez; today neither Messi nor Griezmann wanted to play in the no.9 position.” he said.
Barcelona undecided to sign a Luis Suarez replacement
The Journalist asked whether Barcelona can go for another striker like Kevin Prince Boateng, just like the last season. To that, Schuster replied that Boateng was not even a Centre-forward. “I never understood why they signed Boateng last season because he wasn’t even a forward. But Barca does need a Suarez replacement.”
The Surgery sidelined Luis Suarez out of the team for approximately four months. Leo Messi played as the ‘false 9’ against Granada in the absence of the Uruguayan. Barcelona still has not taken any decision whether they need to sign a No 9 or not midseason. Quique Setien will be the main man to decide whether Barcelona should buy Luis Suarez’s replacement midseason or not.
