Barcelona is Playing Catch Up

Real Madrid is leading La Liga at the moment, but they are only a point ahead of Barcelona FC. Even though Real has played two games less than Barcelona, they still need to make sure they continue to win. Their lead is assured as long as they do not drop any points.

Barcelona has been playing catching up this entire season. They managed to steal a win over Athletic Bilbao, this game week. The victory narrowed Real’s lead to just one point.

During the game, Lionel Messi managed to become the highest scorer from free kicks for Barca. He has now scored 27 goals for Barcelona from free kicks. He scored the second goal of the game, as Paco Alcacer scored the opening goal. Aleix Vidal scored a goal in the 67th minute to seal the win for the Catalans.

Alcacer scored his first ever goal for Barcelona, seeing Neymar’s pass to the net. He opened the scoring for Barca in the 18th minute, making way for Messi’s goal in the 40th minute.

However, Real Madrid could still race ahead of Barcelona; With 2 games in hand, they could extend their lead to 7 points.

Barcelona is not the only team that is catching up with Real. Atletico beat Leganés, thanks to two goals scored by Fernando Torres. Torres beat the keeper to score from a rebound of a penalty. Atletico are now in 4th position as Sevilla are on third.

Similar to Chelsea’s position in the English Premier League, Spanish giants Real Madrid have to be defeated so that the other teams have a chance at the title. As Real Madrid continue to pick points in each gameweek, refusing to give up the top spot. There is no threat to their title if they remain undefeated.
