Barcelona is hoping for a fresh start with a new season. The Catalans did not end the last campaign well. There was an atmosphere of unrest and chaos in the dressing room. Bayern Munich thrashing Barca with a 2-8 scoreline was disappointing. Neither the fans liked it nor the players. The Blaugrana board received heavy criticism.
Club President Josep Maria Bartomeu still held his position to bring some changes in Barcelona. The board decided to offload the majority of the players to raise funds and rebuild the squad. New manager Ronald Koeman took the matter in his own hands. The Dutch gaffer picked out who is surplus to requirements.
Barcelona recovering from Messi transfer saga
Amid the changes Barcelona is undergoing, Catalunya side captain Lionel Messi demanded a transfer. However, the move did not go through with Bartomeu’s interference.
Messi did not speak any good of the current management and questioned the future plans. The six-time Balon D’Or winner stayed put at Camp Nou eventually.
Koeman is planning to build the team around Messi. The Argentine is the point of most attacks as evident from the past. Leo has dominated the Spanish top tier for a decade now. It is hard to deny the fact that the little magician is unbeatable.
Nevertheless, Barcelona and AC Milan legend Ronaldinho finds it difficult to call Messi ‘the greatest of all time’.
Messi has overtaken his rival Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of individual awards. However, the Brazilian legend thinks there are players who are better than Messi.
Ronaldinho thinks there are players better than Messi
Ronaldinho played an important role in nurturing young Messi. He also helped Barcelona with a breakthrough in major trophies.
The Catalan club regards Ronaldinho as one of the finest to play for the team. Even though he does not like to compare, the maestro laid out some names better than Messi.
There are hardly any players to overwhelm the brilliance of Lionel Messi. Ronaldinho did name three other players who outclass the Argentine. He considers Pele, Maradona, and Ronaldo Nazario as ‘the greatest of all time’. According to Marca, Messi could be named ‘the best of his era’.
Winning the prestigious Balon d’Or for six times is a unique feat. Irrespective of individual success, Messi does have much silverware for Barcelona. The only thing left to achieve is a trophy with his national side.
The Barca captain also holds enough respect for Ronaldinho. He said that the Brazilian joined the club in a difficult time. The attacker went trophyless for his first season but won the hearts of all the fans. As Ronaldinho settled into the squad, trophies started to pour in.
