According to The Sun, Barcelona is looking to sign this veteran from Stamford Bridge in the upcoming January transfer window. The Spanish giants have also been linked with signing various other right backs in the last summer window.

The 32-year-old Chelsea defender seems to have been pecking down the order under Antonio Conte’s new system. He has struggled to impress Conte and hasn’t got enough playing time compared to recent seasons. It is very much clear that Ivanovic will be offloaded if the Blues receive a good offer.

Barcelona will become a surprise package for the Serbian international as he will be looking to get more playing time. He has not started a Premier League game under Antonio Conte since the Blues’ 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in September.

Ivanovic joined Chelsea in 2008 for a sum of €13 million. During his 8 seasons at Stamford Bridge, Ivanovic has played more than 370 for Chelsea across all competitions. A couple of seasons ago, he was also one of the best right-backs in the Premier League.

He has won all major trophies with Chelsea which includes Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and also UEFA Europa League. In 2011-12, he also won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea. A player of such glorious career is now targeted by Spanish champions Barcelona.

It is understood that Luis Enrique is looking for an experienced right back who can also play in Champions League. At the same time, Barcelona is trying to sign a player who is cheap in the market. Since the departure of Dani Alves to Juventus, the Catalans haven’t replaced the Brazilian with a better player.

Chelsea’s Ivanovic and Darijo Srna of Shakhtar Donetsk are the two players who can fill Barcelona’s expectations. Both the players will be available for cheap as they are over 32 years old.

In addition to that, there have been reports that Antonio Conte is consistently linked with signing a new defender in next summer. This will surely mean that Ivanovic’s career at the London club is on the verge of ending.

It is obvious that Ivanovic would be happy to make a switch from Chelsea to Barcelona if a right offer is agreed. Ivanovic has proved that he still has plenty to offer at the highest level in the past few seasons.
