Barcelona News: A hit-and-run accident claimed the life of Carter Payne, a former student of Barcelona’s academy in America, at the age of 21.
At the Barcelona Residency Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona, Payne competed against players like Julian Araujo of Mexico and USMNT international Matthew Hoppe. Before joining Tormenta FC, where he was a member of their League Two team this season, he played for the University of Michigan after leaving.
His current team said in a statement that he had died from wounds sustained when he was operating an electric scooter when it was struck by a car.
According to WTOC, the vehicle’s driver fled the scene, and Payne was airlifted to a neighbouring hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
