Barcelona News: The Blaugrana Considering Legal Against Atletico Madrid Over Antoine Griezmann Transfer

Barcelona news: Antoine Griezmann re-joined Atletico Madrid on a one-year loan deal, with an option to extend the loan for another season in 2021.

The France international arrived at Camp Nou during the summer transfer window of 2019. He has played 74 league games for the Blaugrana so far, scoring 22 goals.

Griezmann helped the Catalonia club win the Copa del Rey in 2020-21, scoring three goals in six appearances. He finished as the Blaugrana’s second-highest goalscorer(20 goals) during the 2021-22 season, behind Lionel Messi(38 goals).

However, the Catalan giants loaned him back to Atletico to lighten their wage bill during last summer’s transfer window.

According to reports (via Mirror), Barcelona is planning to take Atletico Madrid to court over the transfer of Antoine Griezmann.

It is believed that there is a clause in the France international’s loan deal which will see him join the Colchoneros permanently if he plays a certain number of minutes this season.

The 31-year-old has played just 60 minutes in the league this season and it’s thought that Diego Simeone is starting him off the bench to avoid triggering the clause.

However, Barcelona believes that Griezmann has already fulfilled that clause as he played over 50 percent of matches last term. It is claimed that the minutes Griezmann plays this season are irrelevant as he was initially signed on a one-year loan deal, not two.

Atletico thinks they only need to sign him permanently if he plays more than 30 minutes in 50 percent of games this term. The Blaugrana are planning to file a lawsuit against them in the coming days.
