Barcelona News: Valencia has reacted angrily to reports that La Liga rivals Barcelona have agreed to sign midfielder Carlos Soler this summer.

According to Spanish media, the Catalan giants have agreed to sign the playmaker, whose contract will expire in the summer of 2023. A cost of €20 million (£16.7 million) has reportedly been agreed upon, with a contract signed by Soler himself.

However, it is believed that more work needs to be done before an agreement can be finalized. Barcelona would have to transfer former Ajax star, Frenkie de Jong, first. According to reports, Manchester United is interested in the Dutchman.

Another significant stumbling block in the Catalans’ pursuit of a summer move appears to be Soler’s current club Valencia denial that a deal is already in place. They also want to extend the midfielder’s contract at the Mestalla.

Soler, a key player for the team

Valencia’s desire to keep the 25-year-old does not come as a surprise. Soler has made 219 appearances for the club since breaking through from the youth academy. The Spaniard was a key member of the team that won the Copa del Rey at the end of the 2018/19 season.

Manager Jose Bordalas was asked about his future at the Mestalla after the final whistle, but he gave no indication if he will be back next season. “I can’t comment on Valencia’s future,” he stated, according to AS. I’m not the right guy for the job.

“What I have to do now is try to restore the players’ morale. I’m quite proud of them and we had a chance to win the championship.”
