Since their 3-0 victory against Bayern at Camp Nou, Barcelona failed to defeat Bayern every time, they met.
So when the Catalans started the match on the front foot, the Bayern team was shell-shocked. They were clearly struggling and Barcelona could have finished the match even in the first half. Their talismanic striker Robert Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona from Bayern at the start of the season, missed a lot of chances. There was evena close penalty call which was denied.
Barcelona then got a good opportunity at the start of the second half too but Raphinha spurned that chance. Then the Bayern show started. In a spell of five minutes, Bayern scored two goals and left the visitors frustrated.
Barcelona News: Xavi admits his frustration
Since coming on last year, Xavi has changed Barcelona and made them a top team. They had a brilliant and the team has immense see depth at this moment. Xavi’s team didn’t take much time to settle.
The Barcelona team was looking like a machine and soon they were defeating their opponents by big margins.
So after a lot of seasons, Barcelona was coming to Allianz Arena as an equal to Bayern to end their horrific record. Xavi’s team did everything apart from scoring the goal and missed a golden opportunity to have a statement win which would have propelled them as a strong favourite for Champions League.
So after the match, Xavi Hernandez sounded very much frustrated and even admitted that he was “p***** off” for losing this important match.
Xavi knew that his team competed and played well. However, they were not clinical enough to hand a defeat to the Bavarians.
Barcelona’s first big mistake in the match happened in the second half when they failed to mark Lucas Hernandez during a corner and the Frenchman then punished them by scoring an opening goal.
The second goal came through a counter-attack which carved the Barcelona midfield and defense open.
Xavi admitted these two fatal mistakes and said, “No way should our rival be allowed to score from a failure of marking at a corner when we have the match under control. Or to score down the middle on a counterattack. We must learn from these mistakes. We can’t let them off the hook so much.”
Meanwhile, German manager Julian Nglesmann has stopped all his critics by winning a tough match against Barcelona at home. Bayern was coming from a very frustrated 2-2 draw against Stuttgart. Despite their poor start, they looked like a proper professional team and took their chances and grabbed three points.
While describing their performances, Bayern’s boss said “In the first half, Barcelona had the better chances than us; our final ball wasn’t quite there. It was much better in the second half, and our efficiency made the difference.”
With this win, Bayern now are at the top of Group C with 6 points. Barcelona meanwhile will stay in second place with 3 points. Both the teams will face again next month at Camp Nou.
