It seems De Jong is wasting no time to showcase his worth and catch attention of his future club’s fans. De Jong is in the lips of every Barcelona fans. However, arrival of De Jong is the just the beginning of a busy summer transfer window as the La Liga champions want three more signings.
Barcelona are lining up another three more signings this summer after spending £75million to secure Frenkie De Jong already. Barcelona are planning a big summer overhaul and want another three players in addition to De Jong and Jean-Clair Todibo, who completed his move from Toulouse at the end of January. The La Liga champions want Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, Serbia hitman Luka Jovic and a rival for Jordi Alba at left-back. Todibo, 19, is an investment for the future but Barcelona are aware that centre-back has been their problem position for years. Gerard Pique is reliable but at 32 is entering the twilight of his career, Clement Lenglet has impressed in his first season since joining from Sevilla while Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen have both struggled with injury.
And that is why the La Liga giants are so keen on De Ligt, who is only 19. De Jong already being signed up for Barca means the pair could reunite at the Nou Camp. The chance to establish himself alongside Pique, Umtiti and Lenglet would be hard to turn down and would only aid the youngster’s development as he attempts to become one of the world’s best centre-backs. Barcelona are looking for a striker to fill Luis Suarez’s boots in the long term, with Munir El Haddadi rejecting the back-up role to join Sevilla instead. The club are examining Luka Jovic, who is just 21, but is making waves in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt. Jovic has hit 15 Bundesliga goals so far this season. Barca boss Ernesto Valverde only has one senior player who can fill in at left-back – Jordi Alba.
Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto are comfortable at right-back but can only play on the left-flank in an emergency. One option is Rayo Vallecano’s Alex Moreno while Alberto Moreno is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season.
Moreno may come hefty and De Ligt won’t come cheaply and is coveted across Europe, with reports suggesting a bid of around £64m would be needed to land him from Ajax. Frankfurt will also demand hefty fee for Jovic.
