Barcelona are in a desperate need of a defender, especially with Umtiti and Vermaelen yet to fully recover, the Catalan giants have only two fit centre-backs at the moment.

The amount of goals opposition have scored against the La Liga champions is the same as it’s arch-rivals Real Madrid. The poor defence alongside injuries to Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen have forced the club to look for another centre back. They might get one of the targets as the club is already looking for its replacement.
Barcelona has receives a massive boost in the race for Matthijs de Ligt as Ajax reopen negotiations to land replacement. The Dutch club have reportedly reopened negotiations with a possible replacement they initially tried to sign during the summer. According to Mundo Deportivo, Ajax are discussing a move for Boca Juniors centre-back Lisandro Magallan.
It is reported that Magallan would arrive in Ajax in June. It means that the club are open to selling Matthijs de Ligt, especially after the Dutchman’s meteoric rise. De Ligt is known as the best young defender and an upcoming superstar. He bagged a goal against Manchester United in Europa League final and since then has delivered some eye-catching performances.
Since then he has established himself as a Netherlands international. De Ligt is already captaining Ajax on a regular basis in the injury absence of usual skipper Joel Veltman. However, Barcelona is not the only club keen in signing De Ligt, the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City are all keen in luring De Ligt.
The Nou Camp side are really keen in landing De Ligt. However, it would take a hefty fee if they want to lure the Dutchman. The Catalan giants at this moment are facing a huge wage bill and want to reduce it. Not only that the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United are keen to sign him. Barcelona should expect a lot of competition for the highly rated the Dutchman.
