Barcelona Rejected €55M Newcastle Bid for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen

La Liga giants FC Barcelona have reportedly rejected a €55 million bid from English Premier League club Newcastle United for the German shot-stopper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen joined the youth setup of Borussia Monchengladbach at a very early age. He then graduated from the Gladbach academy and was promoted to the senior team.

He soon cemented his spot in the starting eleven. Stegen made 108 Bundesliga appearances for Monchangaladbach before joining Spanish giants FC Barcelona and got a fee of €12 million.

Then in the upcoming seasons, the goalkeeper then established himself as one of the best of the best in the world and helped Barcelona to win a lot of trophies. He won one Champions League, four La Liga, four Copa Del Rey, one Supercopa de Espana, one UEFA Super Cup and one Club World Cup. Stegen has also represented Germany on the international stage and won a Confederation cup title in 2017.

After having knee surgery at the start of the 2020-21 season, Ter Stegen’s performances took a huge hit. The German goalkeeper was nowhere near his best and conceded many silly goals.

So this season when Barcelona made a major overhaul to their squad, it was thought even Stegen will be axed out of the team. Barcelona however never had any intentions to do so.

According to El Nacional, Barcelona rejected a €55 million bid from EPL outfit Newcastle United for the German custodian.

Since their takeover, Newcastle are one of the most financially strong clubs. The Magpies want to be one of the best in the world and in order to do so, they are improving their squad during every transfer window.

Newcastle knew the financial struggles Barcelona are currently growing through and so they wanted to take the opportunity and lure the German goalkeeper to England. However, despite their financial woes, Barcelona decided to not sell the keeper and kept their trust in him.

And Barcelona is already getting the result. The German goalkeeper has found his lost form back and is again looking like one of the best in the world. Stegen has already kept six clean sheets in La Liga and produced some match-saving saves.

He has once again become one of the untouchables in the squad and Xavi and Barcelona management is very happy with him.
