It’s an open secret that Barcelona is looking for a long term replacement of Luis Suarez. The former Liverpool striker is ageing and has admitted that he can’t play every game. With winter transfer window around the corner, the La Liga giants have been linked with many upcoming strikers. Barcelona have already pieced together a seven-player shortlist of strikers to replace Luis Suarez. The Spanish giants need to look at their attacking options with their forward-line ageing fast. Suarez’s contract expires in 2021. The Uruguayan has been in impressive form for the Catalan side this season. Suarez scored 10 goals in 19 games across all competitions.
However, a recent knee injury, which forced him to miss Barça’s recent Champions League draw with Tottenham, has expedited club plans to consider their options in the final third. Suarez, who turns 32 next month, knows the club are looking to the future as they sound-out the players who are almost ready to fill his Nou Camp boots.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca have already made clear they won’t hang around and are eyeing-up the seven strikers who could step up. Danish sensation Kasper Dolberg, the Ajax hitman, is one of the names at the top of their list. Timo Werner, the 22-year-old RB Leipzig man, is also seen as good enough to carry the club forward. Uruguayan Maxi Gomez, 22, is on their radar as well.
Genoa’s in-form frontman, Krzysztof Piatek is also Barcelona’s interest. Lille’s Ivorian Nicolas Pepe and AC Milan’s Andre Silva have all both emerged as potential transfer targets. Speculation is growing that talks with Luka Jovic, 20, the Benfica player on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, could soon begin.
It will be intriguing to see who replaces Suarez. The list is extensive and since all are in early 20s a final call is tough to make. It’s important to see whether these strikers have the clincal finish, creativity and humility to replace Suarez. Also will they be able to play the same level as Messi, it remains to be seen.
