The Spanish champions were touted to sign the Russian youngster but it looks like he is now on his way to West London

Barcelona reportedly ruled out Aleksandr Golovin pursuit, putting the kibosh on the long saga. The CSKA Moscow star shot to fame for his heroics with Russia in the World Cup, playing a key role in the unlikely quarter-final finish with 2 goals and as many assists. His performances was certainly taken note of by the big hitters and the Blaugrana were supposedly one of them too.

But it has been revealed that Golovin speaks only Russian and it can be a language barrier if he were to relocate to Spain. This has balked the Spanish champions from pursuing him and have now vehemently ruled out chasing the Russian youngster. That leaves Chelsea in prime position to sign him.
The Blues were also in the mix, whereas Marca’s Xavi Hernandez also had in fact stated that the player’s choice too is Chelsea. However, CSKA are yet to confirm any offer. Golovin was also invariably linked with Juventus initially, but the club have maintained that there isn’t any deal in place with any club whatsoever.
However, a breakthrough in the next few days is on the cards as the CSKA president has said that Golovin’s future will be decided in the next two days even though there’s no done deal so far. But in the current scenario, only Chelsea appear to be the potential suitors and if a deal isn’t struck, other clubs are sure to sneak into.
Golovin has long impressed with his current club side, especially in the Europa League last season against Arsenal when he managed to garner a smidgen of attention with his eye-catching displays. But the World Cup has propelled him fully into the limelight. He was the chief creator for Russia and also scored an incredible freekick in the opening game. So it’s difficult for CSKA to hold on to him now, even though Barcelona have pulled out of the race.

Author’s Take

Golovin to Chelsea should be an ideal transfer, considering the Blues really need a playmaker. Also, the tutelage of someone like Sarri, who’s known to promote young blood, should help the 22-year old hone his skills.
