Fortune can be a scary thing, especially if you are Aleix Vidal. The Spaniard’s Barcelona career looks to be over, just weeks after scoring at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Aleix Vidal enjoyed his best moment in the Blaugrana jersey when he scored in the dying minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu to seal the formidable 3-0 victory against Real Madrid. But a lot has happened since the El Clasico and reports suggest that the Spaniard is no more wanted at the club.
The Spaniard came to the Camp Nou in the summer of 2015. Due to Barca’s transfer ban, he had to wait six months for his debut. But the 28-year old failed to impress Luis Enrique during his tenure and same is the case under Ernesto Valverde.
No place for Vidal at the Camp Nou:
According to the reports in Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan board has told the Vidal to look for a club in the ongoing transfer window. The player has been informed that he no longer fits into Valverde’s plans. Vidal has started just 5 games under Valverde this season and was omitted from Barcelona’s squad against Levante.
The reports have also suggested that Vidal’s former club Sevilla are interested in the player. But the La Liga side has not made any official inquiry for the player.

The versatile player was brought at the Camp Nou in search of a replacement for Dani Alves. But he failed to capitalize on the opportunity as Luis Enrique preferred Sergi Roberto at the right-back. After Nelson Semedo’s signing in the summer, Valverde experimented with Vidal in the attack- but the player’s poor-shooting has forced the board to make such a decision.
Barcelona recently signed their long-term target Philippe Coutinho for record-breaking transfer fees of €160m and are expected to sell a number of players to stay inside the financial fair-play boundaries.
Author’s Take:
As much as Barcelona need a little more depth in the squad, Vidal is definitely not the player who fits into the squad. The Spaniard never looked like a Barcelona player and the news comes as a little surprise. And with the gigantic transfer fees of Coutinho and Dembele, it will be extremely difficult for the board to stay within the rules of FFP. Expect the club to sell Arda Turan as well.
