Barcelona’s squad depth is looking good but Ernesto Valverde has not made optimum use of it. He has now asked one of their players to look for a new club.
Barcelona signed Malcom for French outfit Bordeaux in the summer. It was a rather controversial transfer between the two parties because AS Roma had already agreed a deal with his previous owners before Barcelona hijacked their deal and agreed to pay more money than their Italian colleagues.
Malcom has not been in Ernesto Valverde’s plans for the campaign and has been sparingly used. In fact, the former Corinthians player has played only 25 minutes of football for the Catalans this season despite being injured only during the international break of September and being available to his boss for all matches.
The Brazilian forward’s preferred playing position is at left wing or left midfield, but Phillippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele have been ahead of him in the pecking order and reports now also claiming that the 21 year old is being deemed surplus to requirements by Valverde, who did not even ask for him to be signed.
Ernesto Valverde has deservedly drawn on severe criticism for his pathetic man management skills this season. The most questionable arguments have been the exclusions of Arthur and Arturo Vidal in the starting lineups, despite the quality that they possess and being signed only this summer.
Barcelona have gone winless in four league matches and Ernesto Valverde’s future has come under high scrutiny. The Catalans sit second in La Liga Santander, level on points with Atletico Madrid but the results have not been going their way, which is down to Valverde’s poor management of his players.
It looks like the El Clasico will be the last chance that he gets, alongside Julen Lopetegui, who is encountering his problems as well. Barcelona host Sevilla at the Camp Nou next, once the international break comes to an end.
