Barcelona Fringe Star Is All Set For January Exit

Barcelona fringe star is on the brink of moving to Inter Milan from Barcelona after the two clubs ‘agreed a deal’ for the versatile midfielder.

Rafinha’s fitness issues have prevented him from making the desired impact at the Camp Nou. The Brazilian has found his opportunities limited at Barcelona, as he has missed time to injury and was always facing an uphill battle for playing time, in any case, considering the clubs wide range of options in midfield.

Rafinha graduated from the famed Barcelona academy, ‘La Masia’ but his progress has always been stunted by a lack of first-team action. He started his professional career with Barcelona after making his debut with the first team in 2011. Barcelona is now all set to let him open the new chapter of his career, with Blaugrana boss Ernesto Valverde confirming that the 24-year-old is nearing his exit.

When quizzed about Ernesto Valverde’s future on Saturday, Valverde said: “He won’t be at the training session today as he has permission from the club to sort his situation. I spoke to him about his injury and my opinion was that he needs to play minutes and in Barcelona, it would be complicated after our last market movements. Our idea is to let him play after a long time off and if he played against Espanyol it was because I thought he could help.”

Rafinha was recently handed his injury return in Barcelona’s last outing. That was the first action he had seen this action after being sidelined since picking up an untimely knock in April 2017. The Brazilian will now be hoping to get back to his best in Italy, with Inter Milan expected to pick him up on a loan deal.

Sky Sports Italia and Mundo Deportivo are reporting that the Brazilian will join the Serie A club on loan until the end of the current campaign, the deal will also include an option to make the move permanent. That option is for a fee €35 Million, with a further €3 Million in bonuses. The two giants are now finalizing the details of the move.

Rafinha has been among Inter’s top targets this season as they look to bolster their midfield with the race of Champions League spots in the Serie A getting tighter. Inter, who were first in the points table over a month ago are now third, nine points behind leader Napoli and eight points behind second-placed Juventus, while the chasing is also getting closer. Lazio and Roma are two and three points behind respectively, and each has a game in hand. Rafinha is also expected to be in the stands for Inter’s clash with Roma at the San Siro on Sunday.

Rafinha’s father Mazinho recently explained why the midfielder is set to leave for Inter Milan this winter. In an interview with Globo Esporte, the 1994 FIFA World Cup Winner said: “Rafinha wants to join Inter because he simply wants to play. It’s very difficult to get into the Barcelona side as there are so many players. He also had the bad luck of getting that knee injury over the last two years.”

“He just wants to play, feel happy and do what he loves at an excellent club like Inter. Rafinha has a contract with Barcelona until 2020. We’re drawing up a pre-contract with Inter until 2021.”

Author’s Take-

Rafinha has many reputable strengths, most notably his dribbling and his passing. The Brazilian is really comfortable with the ball on his feet and has really got a great sixth sense. He is a player with undoubted ability on the ball, with an engine that never stops and his versatility will surely make him finest of a. However, his injury concerns are something to worry about.

The Brazilian surely needs to leave Camp Nou in order to prove himself as one of the finest midfielders of all.
