Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic has labeled his fellow teammate Lionel Messi as “the best in history” and has also explained Argentine’s shy nature.
Lionel Messi has been hailed as the “the best in history” by his Barcelona teammate Ivan Rakitic. Messi, 30, is arguably one of the greatest footballers of all time, having won five Ballon D’Ors along with numerous collective honors, including eight La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies.
And with Cristiano Ronaldo enduring a disappointing start with Los Blancos, Lionel Messi has flourished this term again and has already surpassed Bayern Munich legend Gerd Müller as Europe’s top scorer with a single club. After scoring 28 goals in all the competitions this season, Messi is emerging as an early favorite to win the Ballon D’Or in 2018, but the Argentine is less focused on it and is more focused on winning collective honors with this teammate.
Seeing all this Rakitic has lauded his Barcelona teammate, saying that the Argentine wizard could turn a game on its own at any point. Speaking to Antena 3, Rakitic said: “He’s the reference. Our game depends a lot on him. He doesn’t need to talk to understand, a gesture is enough. He is the best in history, capable of turning the game around in a second. He is shy because he knows that everyone is watching him.”
The Croatian midfielder has been a crucial figure this season after Barcelona emerges on the top after the matchday 23. Rakitic arrived at Barcelona from Sevilla in 2014 and has helped the Catalans giants win two La Liga titles and a Champions League. Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has also highlighted the leadership of Lionel Messi amongst the players. Rakitic revealed that Messi is always among the first inside Barca’s squad to welcome new signings.

Speaking about his helping nature, Rakitic said: “He was one of the first to support me when I arrived and I was wondering if I needed something. He is a different person from the others.”
Speaking about Barcelona’s next stop in La Liga. Barcelona will pay a visit to SD Eibar’s Ipurua Municipal Stadium on Saturday with hopes of continuing their unbeaten run in the league, as they eye a treble at the end of the current season.
Lionel Messi is surely one of the greatest players to ever grace a football pitch. The Argentine wizard is just used to producing some real masterclass. There’s no doubt in saying that Messi is like an old wine, which gets better with his age. Messi is constantly improving with every season and it’ll be really exciting to watch him in the upcoming years.
