A 5-0 demolition job with a much stronger starting eleven was more than enough to ensure Barcelona’s progress in the Copa Del Rey after being held 1-1 in the first leg.
Having comfortably booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Copa Del Rey, Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba stated that it was a ‘Luxury’ to have Lionel Messi in the same team as the Catalonians hammered Celta Vigo for the tie to end 6-1 on aggregate. The Argentine superstar scored began the rout with two goals in the opening 15 minutes as he was set up twice by Alba on the left-hand side of the pitch.
And Messi then turned provider for the Spanish defender with a sumptuous pass to get him on the scoresheet as club record signing Philippe Coutinho watched from the stands in the Camp Nou.
Jordi Alba Is All Praise For Teammate Lionel Messi
“It’s a luxury to have Messi in the team,” Alba said in an interview. “I think we have a great connection. We always look for each other to score goals and today we have done it twice.”
“I hope we have Leo for a while, he has been at a spectacular level for 12 years, We hope he will continue having them and that the fans will enjoy it.” He added
The 30-year-old forward re-signed a contract which would keep him at Barcelona till 2021 as Messi took his goal tally to 21 in all competitions. The Catalans now possibly face the chance of facing their arch-rivals Real Madrid in the next round and how Messi and Barcelona would love for their talisman continue his goal-scoring form against Zinedine Zidane’s men.
It’s quite normal and natural for anyone to speak highly of Messi, but coming from his own teammate shows the unison that is at Barcelona. The pair has been working really well together in attack and link up superbly at times, a bit of a headache for the opponents though.
