The Barcelona star has been on the fringes of Ernesto Valverde’s squad and has revealed that he’s willing to fight for his place at Camp Nou.
While Barcelona did win the La Liga last season, their Champions League performance wasn’t the best, after getting knocked out by AS Roma in one of the greatest games Europe’s elite competition has ever given us. However, that lead Ernesto Valverde to spend even more over the summer, with the likes of Arturo Vidal, Clement Lenglet, Arthur Melo and Malcom joining the side.
But now amid serious exit rumors surrounding the Brazilian forward, it has been revealed that Valverde didn’t even want the 21 year old star. According to various rumors, the Barcelona manager’s main target was Chelsea star Willian, with Malcom being brought in as their second choice, but he wasn’t the first one and that has become abundantly clear.
While he did make his first start in the 1-0 Copa Del Ray win recently, the 21 year old has struggled for minutes in a Barcelona shirt, making only 2 appearances off the bench for a total of just over 25 minutes in the La Liga. This combined with the fact that reports emerged that Malcom was brought as revenge against AS Roma, has led to exit rumors surrounding the 21 year old.
However, despite that, Malcom revealed via an Instagram post, “Regarding some news published in Spain, I want to clarify that I came to Barcelona with many objectives and those that know me know that I am a really determined person. I am happy with my evolution in my career and my dreams become a reality with each passing day.
My family are also well adapted in the city. In summary, I am going to keep fighting for everything I desire from my career,” he wrote on Instagram.
The Brazilian earned a big money move from former club FC Bordeaux after his performances with the Ligue 1 side, with earning plaudits and even comparisions to some of Brazil’s greatest players. In just over 95 appearances, the 21 year old scored 23 goals and produced a further 16 assists, all before he decided he was ready for the next stage.
Malcom is very talented. And if rumors are to believed then the 21 year old has been brought in to replace Ousmane Dembele, with the Frenchman not impressing the Barcelona chiefs with his performances so far. If he can just stick tight and endure this rough spell, there is a good chance that opportunities will be awarded to him in the near future.
