Several of Barcelona’s players have fallen out of favor this season, but one of their star men is going to get his chance in the cup game against Cultural Leon on Wednesday night.
Barcelona signed Malcom Filipe Silva from Bordeaux of the French league this summer. The Catalans started hovering around the 21 year old after he had been brilliant for his former club but faced competition from AS Roma. The Italian giants were extremely close to a move and had all the logistics planned, but in came Barcelona to hijack the move and stole Malcom away from under Roma’s eyes.
Having made 38 appearances and scored 12 times for Bordeaux, Malcom was expected to be a hit at Barcelona but has had his chances of playing regularly get severely hampered. As a matter of fact, the former Corinthians winger has barely even played one hour of football since the season started. Malcom’s playing time has been extremely limited and that has started to take a toll on his development.
The reports have already claimed that the player has suitors in Arsenal and Spurs who are willing to lure him away from Catalonia, however, Malcom is set for his first chance to impress his manager and seal a place in Barcelona’s first team if he impresses in their Copa del Rey clash. The defending champions open their cup account in the away fixture to Cultural Leon on Wednesday night in the first leg of the round of 32. Malcom is expected to start the match.
Author’s Take
Malcom has to make an impact for himself at Barcelona in their next few matches otherwise he faces the risk of seeing his career go on a downhill slope drastically. To be honest, it was his fault that he chose Barcelona over AS Roma, because in realistic circumstances, the quality of players in Catalonia were far too good for Malcom to get his chances.
