The Barcelona star started the season well for the Camp Nou side but in recent weeks hasn’t been a feature on Ernesto Valverde’s team-sheet, with reports about a move away.
With Barcelona losing Neymar in a rather extravagant transfer saga, combined with an exorbitant fee for the Brazilian, the club was looking to bring in someone to replace him. However, once the obvious shock settled down, there were few players on the planet who could replace the then 26-year-old and fill the hole of one of the most prolific trios in the world.
But Barcelona eventually settled on Ousmane Dembele, who had just finished his first season with Borussia Dortmund brilliantly. The Frenchman, in his debut European season with a top club, ended having made 49 appearances scoring 10 goals and producing a further 21 assists in all competitions. But life at Barcelona hasn’t gone according to plan with Dembele suffering multiple injuries over the last season which has hindered any progress he could have made.
However, the Frenchman started his second season comparatively well, scoring five in 12 appearances but has yet not been at his best in recent weeks. Not only that with Lionel Messi out injured, the 21-year-old was expected to take the Argentine’s place on the left wing, but manager Ernesto Valverde opted for Rafinha to play against both Inter Milan and in the El Clasico.
Now it has been revealed that according to reports from RAC1, the Barcelona winger has been told to look for a new club in the winter window. It further adds that the former Borussia Dortmund star has been told that his attitude doesn’t suit the Camp Nou side which is why he was dropped for the Inter Milan game and on the bench as an unused substitute in the El Clasico.
Author’s take:
The Frenchman is only 21 years old and if Barcelona does want to sell him, they will not be short of suitors in the coming months. However, given Ousmane Dembele’s sheer talent, the 21-year-old could become utterly brilliant for Barcelona in the near future, if they take a chance on him.
